Faculty and Research

The Freeman School faculty is internationally recognized for outstanding teaching and research in the areas of accounting and taxation, business and law, finance and economics, information systems, management, marketing, organizational behavior, and strategy and entrepreneurship. The faculty comprises 65 full-time faculty members, including 17 full professors, 12 associate professors, 25 assistant professors and 11 clinical professors. Of these faculty positions, 11 are endowed chairs and 21 are endowed professorships.

With a student-instructor ratio of 10-1 in the BSM program and 3-1 in the MBA program, Freeman School professors are able to actively engage students, facilitating spirited interaction in the classroom. In 2000, Freeman School associate professor of finance Venkat Subramaniam received Tulane’s inaugural President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the university’s highest award for undergraduate teaching.

Members of the Freeman School faculty routinely present their research at major academic conferences and publish in top-tier journals. Much of the Freeman School’s research is focused through centers of excellence that bring together scholars from various disciplines and departments to collaborate on research papers and projects. These centers of excellence include the Levy-Rosenblum Institute for Entrepreneurship, the Burkenroad Institute for the Study of Ethics and Leadership in Management and the Goldring Institute of International Business.

Among the Freeman School’s endowed chairs are:

  • Arthur P. Brief, Lawrence Martin Chair of Business, who received the Aspen’s Institute’s Academic Leadership Award in 2001 for his work to integrate social and environmental concerns into business education
  • Thomas H. Noe, A. B. Freeman Chair of Finance, a regular contributor to top-tier journals including Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies and Journal of Financial Economics
  • Paul Spindt, Keehn Berry Chair of Banking and Finance, who recently received a prestigious award from Journal of Finance for his research
  • Mita Sujan, Malcolm Woldenberg Chair of Marketing, whose paper “Knowledge, Motivation and Adaptive Behavior: A Framework for Improving Selling Effectiveness” was ranked as the fifth best sales articles of the 20th century by the American Marketing Association
  • John M. Trapani III, Martin F. Schmidt Chair of International Business, directs the Goldring Institute of International Business and oversees a number of innovative international programs and initiatives.
